Whether you are a Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Food and Beverage Manufacturer, or Retailer, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been at the forefront of conversations this past year in food technology. Use cases and potential opportunities span across the supply chain from approval and collaboration with other external partners including customers and co-manufacturers, to quality assurance, inventory management, food safety and audits, preventive maintenance, food waste reduction, sustainability, and data capture and analysis.
Microsoft has been a pioneer in AI while strategically partnering with companies across the food industry. Its impact on CPG, Food and Beverage Manufacturing, and Retail is valuable and insightful, and it is continuing to expand into new opportunities and streamline processes using throughout these industries. Some examples this past year include:
- Domino’s: Domino’s and Microsoft collaborated to streamline store operations and ordering using Generative AI technology and cloud computing power. Microsoft’s AI abilities behind Azure is enabling them and Domino’s® to create an Innovation Lab, bringing together company leaders with engineers to accelerate time to market for order and smart store technologies along with a commitment to securing customer data.
- Walmart: Walmart announced in January a partnership with Microsoft to create more engaged customer shopping experiences and improve store associate productivity. Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service provides the ability to access the latest global AI models while backed by Microsoft’s Azure security, compliance, and regional availability.
- Coca-Cola: Coca-Cola and Microsoft announced a five-year partnership in April, where Coca-Cola committed over $1 billion to the Microsoft Cloud and its generative AI abilities. This enables them to collaborate and improve Microsoft’s revolutionary AI tools such as Azure OpenAI Service and CoPilot to help drive innovation across the entire business.
- Bayer: Bayer and Microsoft recently introduced an initiative to adapt AI models to industry specific needs. One of the examples was tailoring AI to food and agriculture needs. By combining industry specifics with Microsoft’s partner network and the Microsoft Cloud, they can advance innovation across industries.
- Albert Heijn: A Netherlands supermarket chain is using Microsoft Azure OpenAI to minimize food waste, help customers eat healthier, and reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
- Flora Food Group: A Netherlands food manufacturer which offers margarine and plant-based products and operates in 95 countries. With the help of Microsoft Fabric, they are consolidating multiple analytical tools which enables them to be more efficient and optimize resources. The combination of AI capabilities in Microsoft Fabric simplifies the approach to managing data and helps prevent duplication while strengthening security and improving data integrity.
As a Certified Microsoft Partner, New Dynamic can help CPG, Food and Beverage Manufacturers, and Retailers seize the potential of AI and apply it to areas throughout the supply chain. Our team has a wealth of knowledge and can share and help our clients leverage those capabilities.
Recently, our CEO, Jeff Ney, spoke at Community Summit North America and discussed the impact to Microsoft Partners delivering solutions to clients. We have also offered webinars and released articles that include the updates Microsoft is providing for AI that companies can leverage.
AI can have a huge impact on new product development. CPG, Food and Beverage Manufacturers, and Retailers providing branded and private label products can experience rapid changes to consumer trends. It becomes increasingly challenging to keep up and get products to market where and when they are needed to align with current consumer preferences. AI can help accelerate time to market and enable companies to more effectively compete for market share and achieve a competitive advantage.
Dynamic FRM™ the leading CPG, Food and Beverage, and Retail PLM solution built on Microsoft’s CE platform has Microsoft CoPilot built in. In addition, being built on the Microsoft platform allows for it to continually leverage enhancements delivered by Microsoft’s vast and well-funded innovative AI capabilities.
Companies can identify and embrace the AI capabilities that make sense for them. Some example use cases for new product development include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying new product ideas
- Evaluating products against customer and regulatory project requirements
- Transferring, evaluating, and flagging ingredient or packaging information from documents
- Training, data capture, and analysis
